*LETTERS TO SANTA*
It’s that time of year again! The Young Lawyers Section is proud to be teaming up again with Direct Effect Charities of Chicago with their Letters to Santa event. Below is all the information you will need to take part in this wonderful cause and get into the holiday spirit.
THE CHARITY
Holidays are around the corner and it’s a great time to help a child in need. The Young Lawyers Section of the WCLA is working with Direct Effect Charities of Chicago, a 501c3 organization, to fulfill the wishes of disadvantaged children in Chicago schools that have a 95% poverty rate or higher.
HOW IT WORKS
Thousands of children in this program write letters to Santa asking for toys or items they need ranging from drawing books to a winter coat. These children are anywhere from 3-20 years in age and from Pre-K through vocational high schools. We will distribute letters children have written to Santa to those wishing to participate in the program as soon as we receive them in the next few weeks. For those participating, we will inform you regarding the date by which you need to drop off the wrapped or unwrapped gift at a specified location in the loop. We’ll take care of the rest!
WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW
Your pledge or your firm’s pledge to answer a specific amount of Letters to Santa. We have approximately 450 letters to fill (last year we filled 430), so please let us know if you can help with this effort as soon as possible.
WCLA is proud to continue its support of Direct Effect Charities and the Letters to Santa Program. It is a very fun and rewarding way to get in the Holiday Spirit. If you have any questions, please contact Amelia Schwingle (aschwingle@bcm-law.com)
For those wanting to participate in Dear Santa Letters, please find additional information below regarding the details and timeline:
1) LETTER PICKUP- Please come to the IWCC on 11/12, 11/13, 11/14, & 11/20 in Chicago in order to pick up your letter(s) as I (Amelia Schwingle) will be there on those days between 9 and 10am to distribute. I will also be in Waukegan on 11/15 and Kankakee on 11/18 with letters. If you are not able to come, you may send someone to pick up the letter(s) for you. You can also schedule a time with me that is convenient for you to come to my office to pick them up (Brady Connolly & Masuda, 10 S. LaSalle Street, Suite 900, Chicago, IL). If this does not work for you, I can mail the letter to you, but please only request this if it is absolutely necessary.
2) PRESENTS- Please read the Letter to Santa for the child you have been given and use your best judgment to buy a gift that answers the child’s request. There will be instructions with the letter with additional guidelines (spending limit is between $25-30). We ask that you wrap the gift. There is a sticker label with each letter that should be used to identify each wrapped gift. The sticker includes the child’s name, home room number and school. If you are absolutely unable to wrap the gift yourself, we can wrap it for you after you drop it off, but please keep the sticker label with your gift so we can properly identify it and make sure the gift gets to the right child.
3) PRESENT DROP OFF- Presents must be dropped off by the end of the day on Thursday, December 12th at Amelia Schwingle's office (Brady Connolly & Masuda, 10 S. LaSalle Street, Suite 900, Chicago, IL).
